State Championships

Sophomore Gil Algood participated in the walk of
Champions on his way to a runner up finish at the 2008 Class
A State Wrestling Championships. This is Algood's
second medal in the State Championships. Austin
Edmonds (Sophomore) also became a two time medalist with
a sixth place medal at 145 lbs, while 171 pound junior
Taylor Vaughn wrestled his way to a 5th place medal.
Senior captain Brian Newton capped off his high
school career with a 4th place medal at 189 lbs.
Newton was the 2007 runner-up at that weight. Overall,
Millard North finished 12th out of 32 Class A Schools.

Millard North qualified nine wrestlers for the State
Championship out of a tough district. Gil Algood
and Austin Edmonds went undefeated as District
Champions. Algood, Edmonds and Brian Newton
head to the tournament as
returning state medalists.

Bellevue West JV Invite

February 2, 2008 -
The JV team traveled to Bellevue West and took 3rd place,
paced by first place finishes from sophomore Alex Hodson
(145 lbs) and junior John Gilbert (160 lbs).
The team placed 9 out of 10 wrestlers at the

Norfolk Invitational Tournament

Championship
performances by Gil Allgood and Taylor Vaughn highlighted
a solid effort by the Mustangs at the Norfolk Invitational. Eleven of
the thirteen wrestlers placed in the top 6, leading to a fourth place
finish. Allgood avenged a loss to Louie Rambour of Columbus from Last
year's Norfolk final and state meet, winning 3-2. Vaughn was
impressive in defeating #6 ranked Alan Taylor of Grand Island 15-4.

The
mustangs battled the Elkhorn Antlers on Parent night at
Millard North. Despite splitting the 14 matches, Bonus
points turn out to be the difference as top ten ranked
Elkhorn prevailed 39 -25.

Lexington Invite
Millard
North traveled to Lexington to compete in the John Higgins
tournament this past weekend. The Mustang varsity team was
a little short handed without 145lber Austin Edmonds and 171
lber Taylor Vaughn in what was the toughest field that this
tournament has had in several years. The Mustangs battled
to an eighth place finish in the field of 15. Top placers
were: Brian Newton 2nd, Gil Allgood 3rd, Alex Edmonds 3rd,
Garrett Allen 5th, Dillon Heckendorn 5th.
The JV
team dominated the field with 3 champions (Nick Bellus, John
Gilbert, and Matt Lenagh) and a number of other medalists.

Omaha Metro Tournament

Sophomores Gil Allgood and Austin
Edmonds earned individual Metro Conference Titles this
past weekend! After a slow start on Friday, the
Mustangs came back and wrestled well on Saturday winning six
of seven matches in the medal rounds capped by the
championship performances by Allgood and Edmonds. The team
finished 6th in the 16 team Metro Tournament.
Millard West Invitational Tournament

Gil Allgood paced the Mustangs with an impressive tournament
championship at the Millard West Invite. The 119 pound
weight class featured four of the top six wrestlers ranked
in class A. The team finished 7th in a loaded field of 16
teams. Eight of the 16 teams have been ranked in the top ten
at some point during the season.
S. Sioux City Invite

The Mustangs got back on winning track and
came home with the South Sioux City Invitational
Championship. The Mustangs placed 13 of 14 wrestlers and put
eight wrestlers in the finals. Sophomore Gil Allgood and
senior Brian Newton took individual titles.
JV/Freshman Results
Kearney Catholic Duals, Saturday December
15th. The JV wrestled well at a very tough varsity
dual tournament for class C and D. The JV took 5th out of 10
teams. Several wrestlers had excellent outings. Arturo
Cruz finished 3-1 and got most outstanding wrestler for MN.
Other notables included John Gilbert 2-1 Connor McMillin 2-1
Ryan Radik 2-1 Alex Hodson 2-1.
December 14, 2007: Westside 9-10 Meet at
Westside HS MN. The Freshman Mustangs wrestled to
a fourth place finish. Notable wrestlers included 140
pounder Nick Bellus, who finished 1st, 215 Matt Lenagh 1st,
160 Kody Wise 2nd, 130 James Daily 4th and 145 Matt
Slingwine 4th.
Millard Duals
The Mustang Varsity wrestlers participated in
the 4th annual MPS duals. Despite being down 2 starters, the
team went 1-1 with a win over the Millard West Wildcats and
a loss to defending state champion Patriots of Millard
South. Sophomores Gil Allgood and Austin Edmonds went
undefeated on the evening. The team will travel to
South Sioux City on Saturday. Results: Millard
North 35, Millard West 32; Millard South 66, Millard North 7
East-West Dual

December 8, 2007: The varsity
team showed it's inexperience by going 1-4 at a stacked
East-West Dual competition held in Grand Island, where 4 of
the 6 teams were ranked in the top 10. Returning State
Medalist Brian Newton went 4-1 to pace the Mustangs.
JV/Freshman Results
December 8, 2007: The Freshman team
took the Creighton Prep 9th Grade Invite by storm, finishing
in first place with 142pts. Notable finishers included
145 pounder Nick Bellus, who finished 1st, 189 Connor
McMillin 1st, 112 Logan Barnes 2nd, 130 Taylor Rothanzl 2nd,
135 James Daily 2nd, 140 Caleb Monico 2nd, 160 Joel Nicola
2nd, 112 Logan Barnes 3rd, 119 Karl Krieser 3rd, 160 Zach
Hindman 4th, 145 Dalton Ridder, 3rd.
63rd Annual Vern Ekfelt Invitational
A young Mustang team finished 6th at the 63rd
Annual Vern Ekfelt Invitational. We lack experience at a
number of weight classes, and this was a pretty difficult
test to start the season. The kids wrestled aggressively, we
just have some areas that we need to work on. It doesn't get
any easier next weekend at the East-West duals but the
Mustangs will be ready!
JV/Freshman Results
The Millard North 9th Grade Invite was
held on 12/3/07. No Team Points were kept but the
Frosh Team performed well. Standouts included 103 pounder Alex Nitbouapha with a record
of 2-0, 125 Nick Cumberledge 2-0, 125 Karl Kreiser 2-0, 130
Taylor Rothanzl 2-0, 140 Nick Bellus 2-0, 152 Matt Coufal
2-0, and 189 Connor McMillin at 2-0. Congrats to all
participants!
Annual Metro Youth Holiday Wrestling Tournament
Once again, the Mustang Wrestling Booster
Club sponsored the 23rd Annual Metro Youth Wrestling
Classic on Sunday, November 25, 2007.
